The people who keep us running everyday year round were celebrated today. The admin team sponsored a luncheon for office staff, and counselors. For one wonderful hour they enjoyed holiday cheer and laughter. We wish we could do more to show the appreciation we have in our hearts for the people who make schooling possible.

"The NC School Report Cards website contains snapshots of information about our schools, including the school performance grade, students’ academic growth, how prepared our students are when they enter a school, and a number of other measures as well," said NC Superintendent Catherine Truitt. "These resources are readily available for you and allow transparency into aspects like spending as well as school performance. Although this information is important to know, we know it doesn’t tell the complete story. It doesn’t show the hard work our educators pour in each day for their students and schools and it doesn’t show the spirit of the school itself. No data will be able to show the dedication of our educators nor will it show the extracurricular opportunities, the athletic programs, the apprenticeship, or career preparatory classes - all of which have a profound impact on students and growth."

Mr. Smith's Physics class investigated Newton's Laws of Motion using water bottle rockets while also incorporating engineering principles to build, test, and modify their own rocket designs. No students or animals were harmed in this process, but a lot of fun was had while learning.
Owen High School students in Mrs. Roland's class crafted some holiday finery for the BCS craft fair. Oh what joy they bring with what glimmers, shines, and could soon be mine :)
Join Owen High Chorus at the White Horse for Caroling after the Black Mountain Christmas Parade ! What an amazing way to build a community and holiday spirit !
Don't lose access to a variety of great books! The deadline to OPT-IN for a Buncombe County Public Library card has been extended to Dec. 15! It’s free, and will give your child access to the public library system, including the NC Kids Digital Library. A separate form must be filled out for each child. You’ll need your child’s 10-digit User ID, which can be obtained from their teacher if the child doesn’t know it. Note: In previous years students were automatically enrolled unless parents opted-out; now, an opt-in is required.
