Vogel with Choir

Mrs. Elizabeth Seal, Owen High Choir Director and powerhouse of an educator, invited Grammy nominee Edward Vogel to provide a master class to our chamber choir and students who competed in the NCMEA MPA solo/small ensemble program. Mr. Vogel's professional credentials are world class. The work he did with students - helping them to improve vocal technique, production and breath support - are sure to help each of them grow their vocal talents. Owen Junior Eliza Martin was excited to learn that his professional career has included a performance before more than 80,000 people. His talents have inspired our students to strive for excellence.

Owen high is a place of talent: talent among our students and talent in our educators. Each and every day, Mrs. Seal prepares students to shine on a professional level. Last week 12 students prepared for their solos, duets and quartets for submission to this year's NC Music Performance Adjudication. If you would like to hear the amazing talent of our students, listen to their competition submissions below. Each group/solo chose their own piece and did much of the rehearsal prep independently. Mrs. Seal shared her enthusiasm for students, "it is a testament to the talent we have here at Owen, and a wonderful representation of the wide range of musical genres that interest our students."

The composer wrote this piece out of frustration over the civil war and ethnic cleansing that took place in the former country of Yugoslavia.

Students will be performing at our spring concert on March 27th at 7:00PM at Trinity Episcopal Church in Downtown Asheville.
