Big news! 🎉

Madeleine Pomeroy, one of our OHS juniors, has been accepted into the prestigious North Carolina Senate Page Program — a competitive, hands-on experience where students work directly on the Senate Chamber floor.

She's one of just two students selected this session and will be mentored by Senator Julie Mayfield. Over four days, Madeleine will gain firsthand insight into the legislative process and leadership in action.

An incredible opportunity and a huge accomplishment — her future is bright! 👏

Good morning, BCS families.

Our Transportation crews have continued to monitor travel conditions this morning. Due to deteriorating travel conditions and the number of secondary roads impacted by snow and ice, for the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff members, all Buncombe County Schools will now be closed today, Tuesday, March 17, 2026. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday. Students will not participate in remote learning.

Please stay safe, and have a good day.

Good morning, BCS Families.

Our BCS Transportation teams have been out early this morning monitoring travel conditions. Due to snowfall through the night impacting travel on secondary roads all across the county, Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Tuesday, March 17, 2026. Buses will not travel on icy roads. This delayed start will give DOT crews extra time to treat any problem areas, and allow for travel with more daylight.

Breakfast will be served to students when they arrive at school.

While conditions are forecast to improve, BCS Transportation teams will continue to assess conditions. We will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule.

Thank you. Have a good day!

Gracias. ¡Que tengan un buen día!

2-hour delay

Our BCS Transportation teams have been out again early this morning monitoring travel conditions. Due to additional light snowfall overnight and continuing weather impacts to some secondary roads across the county, all Buncombe County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students today, Tuesday Feb. 24, 2026…except for the North Buncombe District only, which will be closed, due to more severe weather impacts in the Weaverville and Barnardsville areas.

Breakfast in the districts going to school on a two hour delay will be served to students when they arrive at school.

While conditions are forecast to improve with warmer temperatures today, BCS Transportation teams will continue to assess conditions. We will update you should we need to further alter today’s school schedule.

Graphic that says weather message

Good morning, BCS families.

Due to overnight snowfall impacting travel all across the county and temperatures expected to stay well below freezing throughout the day, for the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff members, all Buncombe County Schools will be closed today, Monday, Feb. 23, 2026.

As we have shared, state calendar law limits the school system to only 5 remote learning days per school year. We have used all of those days. Therefore, today is not a remote learning day for students. It will be an Optional Teacher Workday.

Please stay safe, and have a good day.

Due to the continued snowfall across the county and worsening road conditions, for the safety of our bus riders, teen drivers, parents, and staff members, all Buncombe County Schools will now be closed today, Thursday Feb. 5, 2026. State calendar law limits the school system to only 5 remote learning days per school year and unfortunately, we have used all of them. Therefore, today is not a remote learning day for students. Students may choose to use this time to complete work from earlier this week.

Please stay safe, and have a good day.
