Madeleine Pomeroy, a junior at OHS, has earned a spot in the highly competitive North Carolina Senate Page Program, a selective opportunity that offers students a firsthand look at the legislative process.
The program, open to students in 10th through 12th grade, provides a four-day immersive experience on the Senate Chamber floor. Participants assist with daily proceedings while gaining insight into how state government operates. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, but applicants must first secure sponsorship from a state senator—making acceptance especially competitive.
After reaching out and successfully obtaining sponsorship, Madeleine was selected as one of only two pages for the session. She will be mentored directly by Julie Mayfield, offering a unique opportunity to learn from an experienced lawmaker.
The achievement highlights both initiative and dedication, as the application process requires proactive outreach and strong interest in public service. OHS is thrilled for Madeleine, as the program will provide valuable experience and insight into government leadership at the state level.
