Hanna, Ashley (Digital Design & Technology)

picI am so excited to for my 2nd year at Owen High School as a Warhorse! This year I will be teaching Digital Design and Animation 1 and Game Art Design, both are exciting classes that focus on the skills and techniques needed to pursue careers and/or further education in art and design, 3D modeling, animation, video game design, and other creative and technical careers.

Digital Design and Animation (DDA 1) is the entry point for further study in DDA 2, and Game Art Design and Advanced Game Art Design. In the foundation class, Digital Design and Animation 1, we begin with the basics of good design including color theory and the principles of design, learn to use Adobe Creative Suite to create 2D graphic design projects, and finally dive into 3D modeling using Autodesk 3DS Max.  This is a dynamic curriculum where students will complete the course with a basic skill set in graphic arts as well as an excellent foundation for further study in Design and Animation 2 and/or Game Art Design and Advanced Game Art Design.

I approach my curriculum from an artistic perspective.  If one wants to be an excellent designer, it is important to understand how to make ideas come to life in visually appealing and ethical ways. By exploring creative ideas, students will learn and practice the technical skills needed to run powerful industry standard software that is currently used in the creative design workforce. In my classes, I encourage collaboration and communication, and professionalism; all skills students will need to succeed in a global workforce.

Before moving to Asheville, I taught Visual Art in Knoxville, TN.  I earned Master's Degree in Secondary Education from Lincoln Memorial University in 2012.  Prior to that, I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art.  I also graduated from Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville with an Associate’s degree in Video Production.  I have worked in management, television and film, photography, and as an artist showing work locally, regionally and nationally. I returned to school to pursue my lifelong dream of being a teacher, and I love my job.  I am so excited to share the combination of the knowledge and expertise I gained through my education and experiences with my students.  It truly is a joy for me to see students succeed and excel in self-expressive and creative ways.
