A sharp personal appearance is the outward indication of your pride in yourself and the Army. Uniforms must present a neat and clean appearance. Loose strings will be cut from the uniform. No jewelry, watch chain, combs, checkbooks, pens, pencils or similar items will appear exposed on uniforms. The JROTC uniform WILL NOT BE MIXED with civilian clothing. Chewing gum detracts from a professional image and is not allowed in formations. Bulky items in pockets distract from the uniform. Having your hands in your pockets does not show a professional image. While in uniform, cadets will not place their hands in their pockets only to place or retrieve items. Head gear (hats, helmets, etc) is part of your uniform. Always wear your headgear while outdoors, while under arms, when carrying a rifle, wearing a saber or in a formation. Otherwise, do not wear your cover indoors. You should develop the habit of removing your cover as you enter a building. Wear your uniform properly and proudly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Female cadets are authorized optional wear of screw-on, clip-on, or post-type earrings with the Class A’s or B’s only. Earrings will not exceed 6mm or 1/4 inch in diameter. They will be gold, silver, white pearl or diamond-unadorned and spherical. They will fit snugly against the ear and will be worn as a matched pair with only one earring per ear lobe.
Male cadets are not authorized to wear any type of earring. No other piercing (i.e. tongue) are authorized for either gender.
Many hairstyles are acceptable in JROTC. Hair will be neatly groomed. No ragged, unkempt, or extreme appearance is acceptable. Hair will not fall over the eyebrows or extend below the top edge of the collar. Lines or designs will not be cut into the hair or scalp. If dyes, tints, or bleaches are used, colors must be natural to human hair and not present an extreme appearance.
Sideburns will be neatly trimmed. The base of the sideburn will not be flared. Sideburns will not extend below the lowest part of the exterior ear opening. The face will be clean-shaven, except for mustaches.
Females: Hairstyles will not interfere with proper wearing of military headgear or protective masks. Hair holding ornaments (barrettes, pins, clips), if used, must be transparent or similar in color to hair, and will be inconspicuously placed. Beads or similar ornamental items are not authorized.
